Several Things

  • Bug is acting really crazy, and we are working on it.
  • Related: There are two, count them, two, child therapists within an hour of here.
  • Dr. S has an interview at Mountain U.
  • ON THURSDAY.  They told him ON FRIDAY.
  • And accidentally sent him a copy of an email discussing the search, including the names and interview dates of everyone else.
  • Nowhere else has called.  Probably nowhere else is going to call.  I fucking hate academia in all its incarnations, unless it hires Dr. S, in which case I am willing to negotiate an entente.

    Yikes.

On the upside, he has a chance to see where he stacks relative to the competition and what his department thinks about the search. That being said, even if it all works out splendidly, I am willing to call this one as being cruel given the toll it takes keep competing. The only possible justification is that the University requires a search and there is no way to handle this rule. Otherwise, somebody is being led on (either the inside or outside candidates).

    1. The University does require a search.

He told the dude who sent it ("No I didn't! Oh... wait...") and has been removed from future correspondence, mostly. It really was an accident- there's another faculty member whose name starts "Sci".

Academia is not at the top of the good graces list in this household at present, as you might imagine. Still, I hope they keep Dr. S, if only to save face about the email.

    1. YES WELL. I am pretty much tearing my hair out, one hair at a time.

Amusing and also super-awkward: one of the job candidates was a classmate of ours in grad school.
