Excuses, Excuses

My mother-in-law's latest excuse for not coming up after Tot 2 is born?  "But.. it'll be the first week of November!  There might be snow!"

They live in Ohio.  And even here, in November, there's never snow on the ground. We're talking the equivalent of driving in a drizzle, people.

Lame excuses aside, I don't think it's sunk in for her yet: when we said "We are no longer driving to Ohio with the child/children, as of now, until the youngest is about 4".... we really meant it.

  1. Snow in Ohio (where I live) is made of man-eating spiders. DUH.

And not even that will keep my MIL away. I envy you.

  2. Having lived in the northern Great Lakes region... that is a seriously lame excuse.

  3. Why is it that families always expect you to come to them? This drives me crazy as well. It's always, "You should visit more often." One day, I'm going to reply with, "You should visit us just once."

  4. It frustrates me too! It's so much easier for our parents to get around, without children and without high-powered jobs (or in some cases any jobs at all), and yet it's always up to us to visit.

  5. I know! They're retired and in good health. AND they don't have two small children.

Miss MSE: You're telling me. It snowed nine feet here one winter- but none of it in the first week of November.

  6. I know exactly how you feel (but with my own mother no less). It's frustrating.

I always tell myself and her that the road is the same length in both directions... :)
