Various, Assorted, Mildly Discontented

1) Closing on the house in three weeks.

2) Oh my good heavens, I never dreamed one could spend so much time worrying about countertops.

3) Staying home with a (mischief-making, teething) infant takes a LOT of getting used to.

4) Who knew?

5) At some point will write about going from academia to industry to home. What a bizarre few years it's been.

  1. I'm looking forward to a post on your transition from academia to industry then to home. I am gradually approaching the same situation, and having had a baby is what made the decision for me as well.

  2. I'd be curious about 5 as well.
Good luck on 3/4. I sort of envy you for that, but, of course, I have never been home full time with a little one...

  3. Ah, you've all inspired me to actually write rather than feel sorry for myself. Upcoming!!

Amelie, he just started walking, and he's really cute. So far... it's what I chose. And I don't regret it, but it is an adjustment!

  4. Jenny...

I haven't commented in a long, long time.

I think of you often, yes, even though I don't know you except through the blog world. I just recently recycled one of my older posts.

If you want, I would really like to correspond with you a little more privately (I think I have your email on my blog, but I'm not sure).

I want you to feel encouraged that you are doing the right thing for you and your family, but that it might take a toll on your self-esteem.

I hope you are surrounded by people (besides hubby) who will challenge your intellect and encourage you to grow as an individual, not just as a mother.

I live in NW Indiana. I've been to the land of cheese many times over the past few years (to take the kidlets and the man to the Dells). If you are where I think you are, it would not be much of a problem to visit if you are ever in need of a visit from a real-life biotech lab geek-turned mother. Lord knows I could have used one. But, in a major way, your blog has helped me feel encouraged that I have done the right thing for myself and my family.

My last daughter will be entering kindergarten in the fall. I will finally have 6.5 hours all to myself to figure out 'where to go from here'.

The last 6 years have been challenging to me. I have a tremendous desire and drive to learn and share what I've learned with others (finding those others is difficult - thank God for the internet!). Sometimes I think I'm going to go to grad school...then I read your posts and laugh and think twice about it.

At any rate, I'm going to find your email addy and drop you a line, if you don't mind.

Good luck with your endeavors and I wish you all the best.

    Casey
