How to Make a Train Wreck

Start with ten sections of a lecture course.  Add a dash of 'coordinator lost the test file' and stir well, then hold over the weekend.  Mix in two tests written by a sadist, a sinus infection, and a toddler who wants to 'play bubbles, mama'.  Let incubate two hours.  Taste and realize that the entire thing is made of salt tears.

Throw out your test and start again.  When the timer goes off, realize that you have ten minutes to go pick up your children.  Print in great haste, then fold in blowing bubbles with your toddler instead of working.  Administer liberally with a number two pencil.

Makes one Multiple Choice From Hell and one Nobody Finished The Essays, per student.

  1. Made me laugh! This semester I am teaching as an adjunct for the first time in years-- something I vowed I would never do again. My students do not realize how much I DO NOT CARE about their homework grades. Don't bug me about them...the idea of homework is for the student TO LEARN THE MATERIAL...not to fuss over points for late homework. UGH...If I designed the course, I would NOT have put in all that extra grading that doesn't seem to be helping the students at all.
So I hope the grading of your test isn't horrible and that you get more time for bubble blowing!

    1. It's done! I dropped three questions and re-graded the multiple choice twice! Highest grade, 95; lowest grade, 45. Ah, teaching.

  2. Are you the sadist in the first paragraph? At least you can grade on a curve to make up for the Test from Hell.

    1. No, no! Someone else. I don't CARE enough to write a test that sadistic.

  3. Oh UGGH. Reminds me of the surprisingly many cock ups that I, as a very organized and responsible person who is totally in control of my own class, have had with my exams. Like the time one page of one version didn't get copied, or the time the TA who had all the exams didn't show up to administer the exam so I had to re -copy it during the exam, or etc. etc. etc.... Sorry about the sinus infection...
