Between snow days, sick days, and holidays, I haven't talked to another adult human, in person, for about a week and a half. Except my spouse. And five words with the grocery store cashier (doesn't count). Please, America, let the holidays be over now.
I know, it's horrible! I think I may have had more conversations, there were people at the car dealership and a neighbor shoveling snow outside... No one fun though. We should have had you all over for dinner one of these past few days. Of course, then I'd have had to cook, and Christmas Eve I had applesauce and toast for supper. I'm saving the "traditional" meal for when Patrick's family visits. At least then I know they'll eat it. (Hahaha, I just imagined making falafel for them! Honestly, they're less adventurous eaters than C1.)
ReplyDeleteAnd then there's the children! C1 is missing school terribly, I've needed to give him "homework". C2 is playing with C1 all day, and getting tired and cranky. And they just keep talking! The only saving grace is that there is a mountain of snow on a cul-de-sac island close to our house, so it's been easy to exercise the children and keep them from going completely out of their little minds.
Snow + sickness + school holidays = squirrelly children and parents-who-need-alcohol.
Cooking is over-rated. Leftovers! Also your in-laws and my in-laws are long-lost culinary twins. If it hasn't been boiled and covered in butter, it may as well not exist.
DeleteThe children, OY!
Right there with you, plus it's -20 outside (going on 5 days now) which is below my threshold for bundle them up and they will be warm enough for a bit outside or at the zoo. And the indoor options are the mall (no way I'm going there the days before Xmas) or the indoor play places/museum (which is a breeding ground for the stomach bug that everyone in town has, we got it but the kids didn't and I don't want to take the chance
ReplyDeleteI did a crazy happy dance when we found a Starbucks that was open on the afternoon of the 24th (even Tim Hortons was closed!) because we needed to be somewhere that wasn't our living room for a few minutes.
Awwwwwwk. Very cold. Plus, twice the crazy with twins! Or they're crazy in the same way. Mine are crazy in different small-child ways.
DeleteThankfully I think we have reached the point where they are no more crazy than two kids of different ages, and are maybe turning the corner into a bit of them playing together.
DeleteOr maybe I'm just in a better mood because our nanny, bless her heart, asked if she could come over to watch them today because she missed them and so we got some outside time
Awwww. Your nanny sounds really sweet.
DeleteI think Tatoe (14 months- B and N are just a couple months older, right?) is definitely playing *with* Bug and other people some, and can entertain himself for a little while, which is awesome. Bug stealing his toys, and Tatoe SHRIEKING, is less awesome.
