Please Hold, Rebooting

(Or, Disconnected Items)

Item: The lovely, talented, and fierce Belle came to visit.  It was delightful.  There's a great deal to be said for long time friends whom one met when all parties were adults.  There are also many positives in having friends who understand that children are needy little creatures whose needs (usually) get top billing and that it is not about them, I still love them, but the kids need to be fed and bathed within a certain range before All Becomes Woe.   I deeply appreciate this trait.  Also, Belle becomes more awesome each year.  Sadly, she lives almost 3000 miles away.  However!  Visiting friends bring joy and delight to my rural life.

Item: Sweetpea is having a needy phase (possibly a needy year) and now cries bitterly if I move more than a foot away from her.  You can imagine that this is really, really frustrating.

Item: Due to illness, Bug is having THREE WEEKS off school.

Item: The illness is pinkeye, the worst of illnesses.  He feels fine, he is as contagious as measles, and he cannot be around other children at all.

Item: Due to in-laws (and Dr. S visiting the in-laws per Clause 96 of our Marital Deal), I will be alone with the baby for six days.  Over Christmas. When everything is cloooooosed.

Item: Sweetpea has woken up and is climbing on me again.

Awwww... You make me blush! I loved visiting and I think your children are completely adorable and you're doing a terrific job with everything! It is great to see you, enjoy the Rural South, and to spend time with the whole family. I also wish that I didn't live so far from so many good friends.

Also, pink eye? Yikes! I definitely have psycho-somatic eye itching now. Hang in there!

  2. Babies! Such needy creatures. I spent the day with Rachael's munchkin. He was just sick enough to be tired and cuddly, and slightly too sick to be at daycare. When he wasn't sleeping or eating, he was contentedly exploring my kitchen while I made graham crackers. Out of graham flour, even.

Having a friend visit IS delightful! I'm glad you had a lovely time with Belle.

Pinkeye has yet to strike our house *knock on wood* You have my sympathy.

At least you don't have to go see the in-laws... Perhaps you can watch the 5-hr version of Pride and Prejudice. Or all the LOtR movies.

I'm so glad you had Belle visiting. Long-distance friendships that survive the distance are wonderful.

Daycare called me on Monday (barely an hour after I got to work) that SB had an eye infection and I had to come pick her up. And that she couldn't come back until she "had been treated". Fortunately for me, upon further inquiry, this just means we need to go to the doctor and get a prescription for antibiotics, and start using it. It's somewhat striking how different such regulations can be.

    1. It was actually pinkeye in one eye for two days, then the other for two days, then they're off school for break for two weeks. So not precisely illness related.

I didn't take him to the doctor b/c pinkeye lasting less than five (FIVE!) days is probably viral and therefore still contagious even with antibiotics. So yay! Luckily the baby hasn't caught it (yet).
